Missouri, USA
Death: Sep. 25, 1998
St. Louis City
Missouri, USA

On Friday Sept 25 1998, 12:36 PM, Allen Barklage passed away as the result of injuries he received when his Mini-500 crashed in St. Louis. Allen was taking off from Downtown St. Louis airport (Parks) when his engine seized over some power lines. Since he was departing the airport he had not gainied sufficient altitude. It appears that Allen had to use his Rotor RPM to clear the wires and there was not sufficient RPM to make a safe flare. The helicopter hit exceptionally hard and Allen was severly injured on impact. He was wearing his seat belt and a military style helmet.

Allen was best known for being hijacked which resulted in him having to kill the perpetrator. He was a well known sight in St. Louis in the morning and evening skies giving traffic reports and reporting the news. Allen had accumulated over 30,000 hours in helicopters. All of St. Louis mourns the loss of this outstanding individual and GREAT Helicopter pilot. I personally will miss our times together. I was very fortunate to have know Allen very well. We spent many hours together flying . He was a wealth of information and an inspiration to us all. His memories will live on in me forever. You can read about some of his exploits here.

Allen served our country in the Army in veitnam. He was a teacher and friend to everyone he met. He served KSDK as a traffic reporter and pilot for many years. Having several close calls and adventures. He was a person that lived every day to the fullest and taught everyone else to do the same. He had a passion for flying that he passed on to all his students over the years. He had many contributions to the aviation industry and contributed to schools and communities by his fly ins.

Allen Barklage: Beloved Husband, father, grand father, son, brother, and friend to all.
