Uncle Zabe was a typical Southern gentleman. He was a politician who served on the Board of Supervisors in Smith County. He was married to Sally Hughes and they reared three children and a foster daughter in the Burns Community of Smith County, Mississippi. He died of cancer of the throat. His funeral was in his home. People attending the funeral sat on the front porch. by his own request he was buried on his own property, a very short distance from his back door. His death was the beginning of the Barber Cemetery at Burns in Smith County, Miss. His wife Sally was buried there also.
