Mrs. Lucinda Gordon, widow of W. W. Gordon, Civil war veteran, died at an early hour Saturday morning, March 24th, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. B. F. Reem, in Hazelton township. She was 89 years of age. Mrs. Gordon was a Canadian by birth, but became one of the most loyal and patriotic American citizens.

She was born in Shipton, Canada, Jan. 1, 1845. When she was a child of ten her parents moved to Wisconsin, where she was educated and grew to womanhood. She was one of 11 children and was married at 17. Only one of her four children survived. Mrs. Gordon came to Minnesota 50 years ago and for 40 years has been a resident of Aitkin county. She was a devout member of the Methodist denomination, a charter member of the church and Ladies' Aid at Cutler, and the Woman's Relief Corps. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon spent several years at the Soldiers Home at Minneapolis, enjoying the comfortable surroundings and the friendship of other veterans and their wives. Mr. Gordon passed away at the home six years ago. Since then Mrs. Gordon has been with her daughter and family and has kept alive her interest in current events, the activities of the Ladies' Aid, and recently pieced a quilt for the society. Her health began to fail about two years ago, but her mind remained clear to the end, although her last days were painful ones.
