In the late 1950s, he formed the group Ramsey Lewis Trio and they went on to produce such hits as "The In Crowd," which reached #2 on the R&B Chart and #5 on the Hot 100 in 1965; "Hang On Sloopy," and "Wade in the Water." By 1966, he was considered the top jazz pianist in the country. Crossing over, his music had great appeal to non-jazz music fans. He recorded eighty albums and earn five gold records and three Grammy Awards during a career that spanned eight decades. His music brought him various other awards and honors during his career. He later hosted both a radio and television show on the legends of jazz.
