MANSON - O. James Forney, 89, a 57-year resident of the Lake Chelan area, died Thursday, July 13, 1995, at his home.
He was born Jan. 20, 1906, to James F. and Eva (Wilson) Forney at Mondovi, Wash. He attended school at Mondovi and graduated from Davenport High School. He then attended the University of Washington.
Mr. Forney worked for the Shell Oil Co. at Davenport and also Standard Oil and Associated Oil. He moved to Wenatchee in 1932, where he purchased the Kenneth Van Leuven Insurance Agency and later was employed with the J.S. Mooney Insurance Co.
He married Margaret Mitchell on July 9, 1935, at Wenatchee. They moved to Chelan in 1938. Mr. Forney was employed with Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. and purchased the insurance agency in 1942.
Mr. Forney was a member of Chelan United Methodist Church, and the Chelan Valley Lodge No. 118, F&AM, the El Katif Shrine. He was a past president of the Lions Club, the Camera Club, the Saddle Club, the Chamber of Commerce and Chelan Eagles No. 2218. He was the first commodore of the Lake Chelan Boat Races and served as secretary to the Chelan River Irrigation District. For many years he had played Santa Claus.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Lee Vonne Forney of Chelan; and a daughter, Katherine Forney of Spokane. He was preceded in death by a son and a sister.
