Milton H. Mellinger, 49 of RR 1, Chatham died suddenly at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
Rural mail carrier of Chatham for 19 years, Mr. Mellinger was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and Chatham Post No. 759, county commander in 1947 and served as district commander in 1954 and was elected commander of the 4th Division of the American Legion Department of Illinois in July of 1966.
Born in Illinois, Mr. Mellinger was the son of the late Clarence and Una Johnson Mellinger. Two bothers, Albert and Willard, preceded him in death.
Survivng are his wife Mary R.; five sisters Mrs. Florence Bush of Chatham, Mrs. Emily Jane Braham, Springfield, an employe of Illinois, State Register editoral staff, Mrs. Esther Kluge of Fredonia, Ky., Mrs. Clara Belle Worley of Buffalo and Miss Virginia Mellinger of Springfield; two bothers Wayne of Denver, Colo. and Stanley of Springfield and several nieces and nephews.
Southwick Funeral Home Chatham is in charge of arrangements.
