OBIT: Amos Rock for some years employed as a driver in the street department of the city, fell down the cellar stairs at his home, 1206 Washington street, Saturday night and broke his neck. On returning from the theater with her mother and sister a daughter of the unfortunate man discovered his lifeless body lying at the bottom of the cellar stairs. Just how the accident happened will never be known. When the wife and two children left home at 7:30 o'clock in the evening to attend the Dryfus theater they left Mr. Rock in the best of health and spirits, busy about the premises. The Rock home has a basement kitchen and dining room. Coroner Van Reed was called and found that Mr. Rock's neck had been broken and that there was a great gash on the back of his head. A number of years ago while employed as a switchman in the Big Four yards, Mr. Rock had his left arm crushed just above the wrist and it was amputated. It is thought that he started down into the basement, fell and because of his mauled condition was unable to save himself. When found the body was clothed only in underwear. Mr. Rock was born in Salem, this state, March 22, 1853 and came to Lafayette when a young man. He was married here in 1879 to Miss Emma Sellers. He was well known in the city. The widow, eight sons and two daughters survive. The sons are Charles, who is in the United States army, now stationed at Missoula, Montana, Robert R, Orville H, Earl, Herbert, Frank, Merrill and Harry Rock, daughters are Mary Brant Klutzke and Jessie Rock. One son Gorge M died in infancy. Besides these, five sisters and three brothers survive the latter living in Kansas. The funeral was conducted from the residence Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock and the interment was in Springvale Cemetery.
