Washington Lieutenant Governor, Nevada Lieutenant Governor, Politician, Attorney. Born in Maine, he started his career as an attorney before going into politics during the 1880s. As a member of the Republican Party, Laughton served as the fifth Lieutenant Governor of Nevada under Governor Jewett W. Adams (from 1883 to 1887) before Henry Clay Davis succeeded him. Laughton served as the first Washington State Lieutenant Governor under Governor Elisha P. Ferry (from 1889 to 1893). He was succeeded in office by Frank H. Luce. Before becoming the Washington State Lieutenant Governor, Laughton was a representative of Okanogan (his county of residence), Stevens & Spokane County. He died in 1895 at the age of 48.
