Son of John Ray & Elizabeth Elliot.
Married Maria Theresa Martin on Feb.13, 1872 in Walpole Twp., Haldimand, Ontario.
Children: Ruth Effie, Lindey Murray, Elliot Clarence, Lucy Edith, Mabel Florence, & Jessie Emily.

William was a excellent carpenter but chose to work for the Grand Truck Railroad as a stationmaster in Norwich & other towns. 1880 he was transferred to the Englewood station in Chicago.
Sometime after they moved to Valparaiso, William left the Grand Trunk Railroad & became a carpenter, a trade at which he excelled. During the time around 1900 the Soo Canal was being built between Lakes Superior & Huron & he spent several years there building homes in the booming city of Sault Ste. Marie. He later returned to Indiana & built homes in the fast growing area that was to become Gary. When he died in 1915 he was the Attendance Officer for Gary School System.
