Death: Jun. 17, 1974
Arlington Heights

Actress. The daughter of Ethel Owen, a well known radio, stage, and early television actress, she changed her name to Pamela Britton to escape her mothers shadow. After her education at State Teachers Normal School and Holy Angels Academy in Milwaukee, she went to New York City, New York where she was discovered by bandleader Don McGuire and became his singer. Her big break came when she was cast as Celeste Holm's understudy in the Broadway company of "Oklahoma!" When the play reached Chicago, Illinois, she was signed by MGM executive Marvin Schenck and appeared in the musical "Anchors Away", but other films were of poor quality, so she went back to Broadway where she originated the role of 'Meg Brockie' in "Brigadoon." After marriage in 1943, she settled in Los Angeles, where she appeared in some films (most notably the noir classic "D.O.A.), regional theatre, and television, starring in the title role of the 1957 TV series "Blondie." Her best known role was as scatterbrained but kindhearted landlady 'Lorelie Brown' in the television comedy series "My Favorite Martian" (1963 to 1966). After the show ended, she went back to regional theatre. She passed away from a brain tumor at the age of 51. (bio by: Old John Robertson)

Your terrific performance in D.O.A. is not forgotten. So sorry that you left so young. Rest in peace, Pamela!
