Wednesday morning, Mrs. Elma Dora McColley, widow of the late Jesse McColley, whose death occurred on November 10th, died at the home of her son, Earnest Vair, in Jackson, death ending a long illness from dropsical complications.
Mrs. McColley, whose maiden name was Elma Dora Vair, was born February 25th, 1858, being a daughter of Samuel and Martha (Carey) Vair, pioneer settlers of the county. Early in life she united with the Hopewell Methodist church and was a faithful attendant at services. She was a kindly woman, a good neighbor and loved by all.
February 27th, 1893, the deceased was united in marriage to Jesse McColley. Mrs. McColley was the mother of two children, one dying in infancy, the surviving child being Earnest Vair of Jackson. She is also survived by two step-children, Mrs. Mae Pape, county attendance officer, and Harry McColley of Indianapolis. Three grandchildren, Edna, Clodah and Raymond Vair, mourn the departure of this good woman as do two step grandchildren, Mary and Charles Pape of Tipton.
Besides the children and grandchildren, Mrs. McColley is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Clark of Kokomo and Mrs. Anna Graham of Tipton, and two brothers, Monroe Vair of Sheridan and Edgar Vair of Jackson. She is also survived by a large number of nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Jackson church, Rev. George D. Foster officiating and burial will be in Fairview cemetery.
