wife of Colonial Governor William Pitkin. Daughter of Timothy Woodbridge, Minister of the First Church in Hartford, and Mary (Wyllys) Woodbridge.

HARTFORD, Feb. 24.

ON Monday last (being the 17th Instant) departed this Life, grately lamented, Mrs. MARY PITKIN, the amiable and excellent Consort of the Honorable WILLIAM PITKIN, Esq., Deputy-Governor of this Colony; and Daughter to the truly venerable Mr. TIMOTHY WOODBRIDGE, formerly Pastor of the first Church in Hartford; (a Name & Family of the first Esteem among us.) A Gentlewoman possessed of singular Accomplishments; of a clear Understanding, and great Wisdom; and (which was her chief Lustre) of unaffected Piety; a fervent Lover of GOD, and of good Men; a devout; and (when able) constant Attender on Divine Worship; of great Sobriety, yet very cheerful, and agreeable in Conversation; her Disposition most highly charitable; given to Hospitality, and full of good Works. The best of Wives, and tenderest of Mothers; a rare Example of conjugal and maternal Duty and Affection; a pleasant Relative, a faithful Friend, and most desirable Neighbour; and as such, must be greatly miss'd by all her Acquaintance, particularly the Poor, and Distress'd, who never applied to her for Relief in vain. - She had long been thoughtful of her great Change, and wise to prepare for it - often expressed in Fear of out-living her Usefulness; and a Desire of being absent from the Body, and present with the LORD; but with entire Submission to GOD's Pleasure, as to the Time. She had frequently (within a few Days of her last) intimated her Apprehension of the Approach of Death, & her Reconciliation to it; - and as she had wished for a speedy Passage, GOD graciously granted her Desire. Having arose in the Morning as well as usual, she was presently (while dressing) seiz'd with an Apopletic Fit, which in a few Hours put an End to her useful and valuable Life; in the LXXIVth Year of her Age; having spent near 42 Years of it in great Happiness, and perfect Harmony, in the Connubial State, with his HONOUR; who survives to regret and mourn her Loss. Five Children (her whole Number) also survive, to share their Father's Grief; in which, a large Circle of Friends and Acquaintance partake. - Few have liv'd more respected, or died equally deplored. Her mortal Remains were interr'd on Wednesday, attended by a great Concourse of People and Gentlemen, &c.

The Memory of the Just is blessed.
