LANCASTER - Family and friends of a Lancaster businessman who was killed Dec. 30 in a traffic collision have commemorated his legacy by airbrushing an Oakland Raiders logo on his casket at his auto body and paint shop.
Punky's Auto Body and Paint proprietor Vincent Robert Falcon, 30, died at Antelope Valley Hospital about an hour after the car in which he was a backseat passenger collided with a pickup truck on 20th Street West at Avenue K-8.

"Everyone knew him as a brother and a friend," said Falcon's girlfriend, Veronica Diaz. "I knew him as my companion, partner and friend."

Falcon, who had owned the auto body and paint shop at 45025 Yucca Ave. for five years, often talked about death, and one of the wishes he expressed to Diaz was, when he died, to have his casket airbrushed with the logo of the Oakland Raiders - one of his favorite teams.

"For some reason, he didn't think he was going to die old," Diaz said.

His family and friends gathered Tuesday to airbrush his casket inside his shop.

Close friends and family loudly sobbed as a funeral home caretaker and other friends carried Falcon's casket into the shop, placed it on a table and taped it in preparation for airbrushing.

"People looked up to him and his profession," said Angela Salas, who is married to his cousin, Philipe Falcon.

"He was always positive, never negative," she said.

In memory of Falcon, his family and friends also painted a large mural with the name "Punky" and a phrase he most commonly said, "You can't rush perfection," on a wall inside his shop.

Punky was a nickname his mother had given him as a child, Diaz said.

Falcon grew up in the Antelope Valley, lived in Lancaster with Diaz and graduated from Quartz Hill High School.

He, along with his parents, opened the shop, which focuses on customizing vehicles, after he became certified in auto body and paint work.

He got customers by word of mouth and by placing his business card on car windows.

"His main focus was the shop," Diaz said.

He is survived by his mother, Olga Falcon, his father, Vincent G. Falcon, two brothers, Andrew and Vincent Z., and sister Teresa .

A Mass for Falcon will be t 10 a.m. Saturday at Father Serra Parish, 42121 60th St. West, Quartz Hill.
