Film Pioneer, Studio Executive, Film Producer. Co-founder of Universal Pictures. Born Adam Kessel Jr., he frequently partnered with executive Charles O. Baumann. With Carl Laemmle, Baumann & Mark M. Dintenfass, they created the Motion Pictures Sales and Distributing Company in 1910. Kessel and Baumann are the co-founders and original financial backers for the Mack Sennett-backed Keystone Studios based in Edendale, California. In 1912 with Laemmle, Baumann, Dintenfass, David Horsley, Jules Brulatour and a group of film executives, he co-founded Universal Pictures. Baumann and Kessel formed the film distribution firm Mutual Film Corporation, which merged with the Triangle Film Corporation. The Kessel-Baumann Picture Corporation would see the duo continue work throughout the 1920s. He died in Keeseville, New York in 1946.
