Funeral services for Jesse Henry Morrison, 70, Abernathy, were held Monday, November 2, 1993 at 3 p.m. in the First Baptist Church, Spur.
Former Spur pastor Rev. Norris Taylor, Idalou; Rev. Dennis Teeter, Abernathy and Rev. Genoa Goad, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Spur, officiated.
Burial was in Spur Memorial Cemetery with Campbell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Morrison died suddenly in St. Mary of the Plains Hospital, Lubbock at 7:10 a.m. November 19.
He was born on the Morrison Ranch in Kent County on November 16, 1923 and had lived in Kent and Dickens Counties most of his life before moving to Abernathy in 1976.
He married Margie Bell in Wellington on December 18, 1941. He was a retired farmer and rancher.
Morrison was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Spur Masonic Lodge No. 1023 and past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star; past president of the Spur Ex-Student Association and was named Outstanding Ex-Student in 1989-90; he was a former manager of the Spur Area Chamber of Commerce and a charter member of the Spur Industrial Foundation; he served on the Spur City Council for several years and was also Mayor in 1969-70; member of the Spur Volunteer Fire Department and was named Spur´s Man of the Year in 1959.
He is survived by his wife, Margie Morrison, Abernathy; one son, Don Morrison, Ralls; one daughter, Karen Thomas Abernathy; two brothers, J.B. Morrison, Jr., Spur and Robert Morrison, San Antonio; two sisters, Florene Morgan, Amarillo and Velma Spradling, Houston; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Masonic rites were conducted at graveside by members of Spur Masonic Lodge 1023 and members of Spur VFW Post 7212.
