Samuel J. Primmer, 82, a veteran of the Civil War in which he served in Co. C, 58th Ohio Vol. Inf., died at his home April 16, 1926, from indigestion and infirmities of age. The funeral was held at the home and interment made in the Mansfield cemetery.

Samuel was born in Logan, Ohio February 24, 1844, the son of Adam Primmer and Leah Ingle . He married Margaret Ann Mackey of Logan on December 28, 1872 and immediately came to Piatt County, settling in Sangamon Township. After twenty years they moved to Mansfield and lived there for the rest of their lives. They were farmers.

They had nine children and all of them were living at the time of his passing, together with their mother. They were Alberta Derr, Paris; Frances Derr, Urbana; Fredric of Maroa; Thornton of Monticello; Allen G. of Farmer City; Rachael Carleton of Urbana; Grace Elizabeth Defoe of Mansfield; Roscoe of Chicago; and Myrle Buckles of Artesia NM.

Samuel also left four brothers: Fred of Mahomet, Ephriam of Urbana, Peter of White Heath and Barney of Pleasantville OH.

His obituary said his death left but three members of the local Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) post. These were: William H. H. McCall, William Clemans and Jesse Nash (who actually died years earlier).

Rachael's husband was Edward Carleton
