She died during a freak September snow storm in Colorado while climbing Long's Peak in Estes Park (she froze to death). She is the first recorded death climbing Long's Peak. Her body was sent back to Connecticut to be burried.
She was a lover of animals and in her will left a large sum of money to help start the ASPCA. She also left a large sum of money for a memorial to be built in honor of her beloved horse Knight. Her extended family contested the will and lost. The monument was made and still stands on the Green in Waterbury, Connecticut. The horse Knight had kicked her father in the head and killed him.
She was the first cousin to my great grandfather.
