The youngest of ten children, Paul was preceded by his parents, George & Mary (Krieg) Engle; five sisters: Edna Sly, Alice Tallman, Louis Hill, Agnes Engle, & Frances Smith; four brothers: Frank, William, Victor, & George; a granddaughter: Elizabeth Lowery; special sister-in-law Eleanore Hewing Engle; and lifelong friend & brother-in-law James Kenter.
A veteran of the U. S. Army, Paul attained the rank of Captain and served in both World War II and Korea. He was the awarded both a Purple Heart and a Silver Star.
A printer by trade, Paul owned and operated Heart Printing Company in Effingham until his Army Reserve unit was called to active duty during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Recording & Statistical Corporation and had owned & operated the Mister Softee franchise in Danville from 1961 - 1969.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Paul served on the board of Holy Family Credit Union for seven years. He supported Catholic education and was an original member of the Schlarman High School Foundation drive. Paul enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, Illini basketball and had been a fan of the Chicago Cubs since age 11. His favorite times were spent with his wife and family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
