Professional Football Player. He was a high school standout at Conner High School in Augusta, Arkansas, being selected to play in the high school All-American game in 1953. He had a superb football career at the University of Arkansas, being named to the All-Southwest Conference team in 1956, his final season with the Razorbacks. He was a third-round draft pick by the Los Angeles Rams in 1957. The next year he was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was sent to the Baltimore Colts after three seasons with the Steelers. He played with the Colts for nine years, from 1961 thru 1970. A knee injury sidelined him in 1963. He spent a total of thirteen years as a defensive tackle and end in the NFL. He was also a Golden Gloves regional boxing champion in 1953 and 1954, and a two-time mid-South heavyweight champion in 1955 and 1956. He was inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in 1976, and earned a spot on the Razorbacks Hall of Honor in 1994.
