US Congressman. He was admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar Association in 1832, opened a law practice in Norristown, Pennsylvania and was a member of the State House of Representatives in 1834. In 1839, he was elected as a Democrat to represent Pennsylvania's 5th District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1839 to 1843. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law until his death.
