Lawrence Stern Bain (incorrectly spelled "Bains" on the county memorial at the courthouse) was born September 30, 1916 in Jackson County, Alabama, the son of His Robert Lee Bain and Cornelia Bryant Bain.
He entered the Navy in 1941 and earned the Silver Star for his action in five overseas encounters. He rose to the rank of Machinist Mate First Class and was transferred to the Naval Air Station Base in Stanislaus, California. In January 1945, he married Annie Vesper Carter, and she moved with him to California. He died as the result of an explosion of the equipment he was working on at the base in California on April 26, 1945. He is buried at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Section, AL. His wife was Annie is buried beside him.
