The funeral of Miss Mary Stier, who died on Sunday last, as so published in THE NEWS, took place Wednesday at 2 o'clock, p.m., at the old family residence in New Market, the home of her father the late Hamilton Stier. Interment was at new cemetery, near the village. Owing to the popularity of the highly esteemed young lady, a large concourse of the people from near and far assembled at the house to render their last tribute of respect to her memory. Shortly after her death the body was embalmed by Messrs. H.N. Etchison & Son, of this city. Trinity Sabbath school, M. E. church, South, and the New Market Literary Society, of both of which organizations she was a member, showed their appreciation of the high esteem in which she was held by attending the funeral in a body. The floral contributions were choice and in beautiful designs and almost hid from view the handsome cloth covered casket which held the remains. Rev. M.G. Balthis, of Trinity M.E. church, South, and Dr. James Stephens, rector of Grace P. E. church, were the officiating clergymen. Relative were present from Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Harford and Carroll counties. The pall-bearers were Frank A. Hammond, Wm. Hopkins, Joseph Wood and P.H. Griffith, Jr. The undertaker was I.S. Russell. After the services were over the grave presented the appearance of a sold mound of lovely roses and other spring flowers.
