Dr. James T. "Crack" Anderson, 74, died Wednesday, November 28, 2007, at his residence.

Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 30, 2007 at First Baptist Church. Rev. Clay Waldrip officiated with burial following in Chester Memorial Gardens.

Born at the family home in Chester, SC, he was a son of the late Joe Emory and Ruby Ruth (Byars) Anderson.

A 1951 graduate of Chester High School, Dr. Anderson graduated from Clemson College and the University of Georgia.

He was a member of the U.S. Marine Corp and received his wings at Lackland Air Force Base, TX, in 1955. Dr. Anderson was a drill instructor at Parris Island prior to attending flight school. He was a retired major with the U.S. Marine Corps, having served during the Korean War as a fighter pilot.

Dr. Anderson was a veterinarian for over 45 years and belonged to the American Veterinary Medical Association, served as president of the South Carolina Veterinarian Association, and was named Veterinarian of the Year for the state in 1992.

Dr. Anderson was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, a member of the Mens Breakfast Club, South Carolina Aeronautics Commission and the Chester Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Betty (Bailey) Anderson; a daughter, Barbara Anderson of Columbia; a son, Samuel W. Anderson and his wife, Angie, of Chester; a granddaughter, Caitlin Baker of Clemson University; two brothers, Ret. Col. Joe E. Anderson Jr. and his wife, Connie, of Montgomery, Ala. and Ret. Lt. Col. George B. Anderson and his wife, Nancy, of Chester; and a number of nieces and nephews.
