Weaverville - Virgil Ambrose Banks, 77, of 23 Monnie Jones Road, died Friday, July 30, 2004, at St. Joseph s Hospital after an extended illness.

A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was an Army veteran of World War II where he served as a Military Policeman. He was a son of the late Edward and Bonnie Watkins Banks and husband of the late Loduska Edmonds Banks, who died on Dec. 28, 1998. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Evelyn Revis, who died in 1999 and a brother, James Arthur Banks.

Surviving are his sons, Clyde Banks and his wife, Gail, of Mars Hill, David Banks of Mars Hill, Leroy Banks and his wife, Susie, of Weaverville and Kenneth Banks and his wife, Sandra, of the home; daughters, Linda Fox and her husband, Wade, of Weaverville, Sarah Justice of Weaverville, Lois Moore of Asheville, Mary Lee McKinney of Mars Hill, Betty Baldwin of Mills River and Barbara Edmonds of Arden; brother, Julian Banks of Weaverville; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Darrel Bowles officiating.

Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Funeral Home.
