ALONZO, called LON, was the son of MARTHA JANE JOHN and WILLIAM E. ALLDREDGE.

Married: 23 Dec 1876 in Kansas.

Wife: ELIZA JANE BOYLAN, known as LYDE, b. 8 April 1858 in KS, d. 1 March 1939 in OR.

Both are buried at Mountain View cemetery, Oregon City, OR.

When LON and LYDE were both about 25 they came west with a number of other Alldredges (his parents and all his living siblings) and Boylans by wagon train to Oregon City.

What prompted them to move west is unknown. They farmed for at least 4 years in Decatur County, KS while the rest of LON'S family was farming in Iowa. According to family lore, three of those four years were plagued by drought and one by locusts. These stories state that LON told his relatives he never wanted to live where water was scarce again.

LON and LYDE made their home in Oregon City for the rest of their lives, becoming part of a small, close community in which the children of the wagon train families remained involved with one another for at least another generation. A diary of this trip west was kept by MARY MATILDA SURFUS and is available at the Clackamas County Historical Museum. The Boylan and Alldredge families were already united by two marriages between them before this trip west.

LON and LYDE'S home was located at 16th. and Division Streets, Oregon City. It was the home of their longest residence, their first homes having been in MO and KS early in their married life.

Their known children:

1) Minnie Alldredge b. 3 March 1878 d. 6 March 1882.

2) Anna Alldredge HOWELL - (1880 - 1955).
Husband: Garnett Judson HOWELL

3) Clara ALLDREDGE - (1884 -1966).
Husband: David CATTO.

4) Clarence Alldredge - (1888 - 1973).
Wife: Dorothy (Dossie) Pearl Mead.

5) Joseph Melvin Alldredge (1892 - 1973).
Wife 1: Elda Vollentine.
Wife 2: Erna Eleanor Petzold.
