Laban was the son of John A. Compton and Addelaid Burke. He married Nancy J. Powell. He and Nancy were parishiners of the Kavanaugh Methodist Church, Boyd Co., KY. They resided in Ashland, KY. He was first a brakeman for the railraod and then a conductor, Big Sandy Division for the C&O Railroad Company. Labe and Nancy were the parents of Joseph "Joe" born about 1909, KY.
