Fred was born in East Tottenham, London, Borough of Haringay in England. He was the son of Ludwig Dautenheimer IV and Annie North Dautenheimer. He emigrated to Hamburg, Germany on June 6, 1921, set sail for America on Hamburg American Line steamship WESTPHALIA on Dec. 10, 1925 and arrived in New York on Dec. 22, 1925. He married Phyllis Marion Pingree on Oct. 25, 1933 in Newton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. He was pre-deceased by his wife in 2001 and his son, Major Frederick William Dauten, Jr. in 1970.
