Charity was the daughter of Jabez and Nancy McCorkle. She married Nathan Barnett Kerr on January 26, 1860 in Jackson County. She was killed in the collapse of the Union jail for Women in Kansas City along with four other women arrested for allegedly spying for the Confederacy. There are a multitude of accounts of this event that can be found.
