Andrew and most of his sons were employed as Puddlers (highly skilled iron makers with relatively short life expectancies, who tended to pass the secrets of iron making on from generation to generation) at the Duncannon Iron Works. Many of his sons moved on to the Altoona / Duncansville, Pennsylvania area after the Civil War and were employed in the capacity as puddlers at the Duncansville Iron Works as well at the Pennsylvania Railroad Works in Altoona. His grandsons were later actively employed by the Youngstown Sheet & Tube Company and the U.S. Steel Corporation in the Youngstown-Warren Ohio area.
