Verna Louise "Cookie" Fitch Sisco, 64

EAST LIVERPOOL — Verna Louise "Cookie" Fitch Sisco, 64, of Dairy Lane, East Liverpool, died at her residence on Monday, Sept. 17, 2007, following a brief illness.

She was born in East Liverpool on Dec. 21, 1942, a daughter of the late Bernard Vernon and Georgia Loretta (Baker) Fitch, but resided on a 100-acre farm in Amsterdam, Ohio, since 1986, where she enjoyed deer hunting.

She was formerly employed at Mahoning Bank in Youngstown; Ferro Corp. Louthan Plant; First National Bank; Hill's Department Store in East Liverpool; Homer Laughlin China Co. in Newell; and retired after 20 years as a Stationary Steam Engineer in the operations department at Ohio Edison Co. in Stratton, Ohio.

Established before 1820, the family was proved to be one of the first families in Ohio. Cookie was co-founder of genealogypitstop.com; a member of Captain Nathaniel Mills Chapter; Daughter of the American Revolution in Hurst, Texas; The Continental Society; Daughters of the Indian Wars, Geronimo Chapter, Texas; Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, at large; VFW Post 66 Ladies Auxiliary in East Liverpool; American Legion Post 114 Ladies Auxiliary in Newell; Women of the Moose, Chapter 642, East Liverpool; Former member of the Women's Inter-City Pool League in East Liverpool; Ft. Steuben Stamp Club; The Philatelic Society of Pittsburgh; Christmas Seal & Charity Stamp Society; Ohio Valley Coin Assoc.; National Rifle Assoc.; Amateur Trapshooting Assoc.; Utility Workers Union of America, AFL-CIO, Local 457; and Past Vice President and Director of Holdings, Tri State Genealogical and Historical Society, Newell.

She won the Ladies Trophies at the Ohio State Trapshoot in 1982, and the Grand American Trapshoot in 1985, both at Vandalia, Ohio.

She leaves her loving daughter, Jo Lynn Hughes, and three lovely grandchildren: Chelsea Nicole Curran, Brittany Morgan Hughes and Adam Eugene Hughes, all of East Liverpool; one precious great-granddaughter, Kennidy Lynn Curran; and two sisters: Barbara Diane Show of Lisbon, and Marlene Paulovich of Midland.

Besides her parents, her best friend and life companion, John Geoffrey Buchanan, preceded her in death.

Services will be held at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 21, 2007, with Tom Bullard, Chaplain at Valley Hospice officiating.

Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery.

The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home in Calcutta from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007.
