Richard died as a result of an automobile accident on Ga. Hwy. 5 in Douglas County, Georgia. He had just gotten his draft notice for Vietnam. He was at a New Year's party, probably had too much to drink and hit black ice on the roadway. His car flipped over into a small pond.
