The son of Benjamin and Salomea Salsburg, David Salsburg was a resident of Perry County (circa 1860).
His first wife was Sarah A. (surname unknown).
He married Margaret E. Mumper, 19 years his junior, on June 18, 1901, in Perry County and fathered David M. (born about 1900) and Louisa Mary (born 23 April 1892, who married Roscoe Henry Hockenberry).
In 1860, he was a farm laborer living with and/or working for farmer Jeremiah Shaeffer in Madison Township, Perry County, Pennsylvania.
David Salsburg was a private for the Union Army, Company H, 202nd Pennsylvania Infantry. He enlisted in Newville, Cumberland County, PA, on 30 Aug 1864; mustered in at Harrisburg, PA on 3 Sep 1964; and was honorably discharged with his company on 3 Aug 1865. Service included guard duty on the Manassas Gap Railroad and the Orange and Alexandria Railroad. Also, in the defense of Washington, DC and Alexandria, VA. Regiment loss during service included three enlisted men killed and 33 enlisted men by disease, for a total 36 dead.
He died in Tobyone Township, Perry County, from "chronic nephritis with uremia."
