King was the son of Henry Raines and Nellie Raines. He served in the U. S. Army and received his Honorable Discharge. He was employed with the Campbell Soup Company and Progressive Life in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania before retiring to Crawford County, Georgia. He was a member of the Good News Baptist Church in Philadelphia.
He was married to Ida Bell Schofield Raines.
