EAST PEORIA -- Linus Evan "Shorty" Aldrich, 85, of 100 Regent Court, formerly of Kewanee, died at 12:40 a.m. Wednesday, June 23, 1999, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Danville.
Born Dec. 29, 1913, in Lorimor, Iowa, to Earl and Mary Cynthia Short Aldrich, he married Dorothy Irene Miller Ford on Oct. 11, 1951, in Dunlap. She preceded him in death.
One stepson, William Ford, one brother and one sister also preceded him in death.
Surviving are two stepsons, John Ford of East Peoria and Rick Ford of Galva; one sister, Margaret "Peg" Riggins of Kewanee; one brother, John of Tucson, Ariz.; six stepgrandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A World War II Army veteran, he was past Commander of the American Legion.
He attended Northeastern University in Boston and Bradley University in Peoria.
He retired from Kewanee Boiler Co. in Kewanee.
He was a 32nd degree life member of Alta Masonic Lodge 748 for 51 years. He also was a life member of 40 et 8. He served on the Dunlap Grade School Board, where he was active in the Alumni Association.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. today at Prospect Cemetery in Dunlap. The Rev. David LaMaster will officiate. Cremation has been accorded. Pape Funeral Home in Danville is in charge of arrangements.
