James Harvey McCormick was born November 21, 1825, in Cooper County, Missouri, the son of James and Rebecca (Cathey) McCormick.

James married Armilda Jane Bohon on May 2, 1850, in Pettis County, Missouri. Armilda was born September 16, 1827, in Mercer County, Kentucky, the daughter of Walter Reilly and Martha Catherine (Jones) Bohon. James and Armilda had the following known children:

1. Martha A. McCormick (1851-1851)
2. Janette R. "Nettie" (McCormick) Parrish (1852-bef. 1882)
3. William E. McCormick (1854-1938)
4. Walter V. McCormick (1858-1948)
5. George Homan McCormick (1860-1939)
6. James E. McCormick (1863-1942)

Armilda died October 27, 1899, in Pettis County, Missouri. James died March 6, 1912, in Flat Creek, Pettis County, Missouri. Following is a transcription of a bio on James from pages 1091-1902 of The History of Pettis County, Missouri:

JAMES H. McCORMICK.
Was born in Cooper Countyu, Mo., in the year 1825. His parents emigrated to the State of Missouri in 1819. His father was a native of Kentucky and his mother of North Carolina. His father assisted in building the first house in the city of Boonville, Mo. His parents are both dead. His mother died in the year 1899 amd his father in 1861. He came to this Cpunty in 1331, and was married in 1850 to Armilda J.Bohon, who was born in the State of Kentucky in the year 1827. Six children have been born to them, four sons and two daughters, two of whom are dead. William E. was born July 27, 1854; Martha A., born Feb. 13, 1851, Nettie, born May 5, 1852; Walter V., born Feb. 2 1858, George H., born Sept. 22 1860, and James E. born in Aug., 1863. He owns 353 acres of fine land, 100 acres of which is timber. 253 acres are under fence and in good cultivation and fine pasture He entered 120 acres, eighty acres at $1.25, and forty acres at 12 1/2 cents per acre. His farm is admirably watered, and grows about thirty bushels of corn, twelve bushels of wheat and forty bushels of oats to the acre. He feeds about 100 head of cattle, and has a good line of horses and other stock. He is a popular man, and one of the representatives farmers of the county.
