Bertha Toon was the 13th child born to James William II and Mary Tabitha McCutchen Toon. She attended school, Church, singings and many other functions at the old Liberty Grove schoolhouse. She md. 1 April, 1914, Oscar William Akard (son of Charles and Ida Mae Wallace Akard). Bertha and Oscar had one son, James Charles Akard born 24 April 1915. Bertha died at his birth and was buried in the old Liberty Grove Cemetery near her mother's grave. James Charles died in CA 29 Dec. 1996 and was buried in Sutter Cemetery, Yuba City, CA.
