The Derrick, Oil City Pa., April 23 2007:
" Gene R. Rex, 67, of Pine City, Elk Township, Clarion County, died at 1:27 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2007, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca. Born Nov. 24, 1939, in Uniontown, he was the son of the late Raymond and Mary Clark Rex. He attended the Shippenville area schools. Mr. Rex first worked at the Knox Box Factory before going to work for
Kifer Trucking. He later retired from Zuck Coal Co.
He attended the Pine City United Methodist Church
For many years, Mr. Rex was president of the Pine City Recreation Hall. Mr. Rex enjoyed NASCAR races and watching baseball. His hobby was gardening and he was well-known for growing potatoes. His dog, Beethoven, was his buddy and was always with him. On July 18, 1959, he married Sara L. Knight, who survives. Also surviving are four children, LuAnn Graham of Knox, Randy Rex and fiance, Melissa Beichner, of Shippenville, Kathy Cohlhepp and
husband, Russ, of Shippenville and Pam Rex and special friend, Jason McHenry, of Knox; and seven grandchildren, Hope, R.T. and Roxanne Rex, Justin and Bridget Cohlhepp and Kiersten and Danielle Rex. He also is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Joan Gibson and husband, Marvin, of Turkey City, Shirley Rankin and husband,
Keith, of Knox, Rosalita Kling and husband, Jim, of Clearfield, Meda Beichner and husband, Rich, Keith Rex and wife, Connie, and John Rex, all of Shippenville, Dana "Dink" Rex of Knox, Ken Rex and wife, Nancy,
of Rochester, N.Y., and Den Rex and wife, Pat, of Canauagua, N.Y.; his best friend, David McCartney of Venus; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Rex was preceded in death by his stepmother, Sarah V. Rex; an infant sister; two infant children; and a
sister-in-law, Connie Rex. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday in the David C. McEntire Funeral Home Inc., 504 E. Penn St., Knox. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. John Hickman, pastor of the Pine City United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Perry Chapel Cemetery, Shippenville RD 1."
