Born in Quarry Bank and worked as a horse nail maker. Immigrated to US July 6, 1886 on the SS British Prince, leaving from Liverpool and landing at Washington St Wharf, Port of Phildelphia with his mother, Phoebe and siblings: Uriah, Walter, Richmond, Prudence, Joseph & Lilley and maid, Mary Ann Hickman. Charles & Mary Ann later married. They had 14 children: Phoebe, Gertrude, Uriah, Mary, Mabel, Lillie, William, Ruth, Richmond, Helen, Herbert, Joseph, John & a stillborn twin to John.

Charles was a chainmaker for Bradlee & Co. and was a member of the Centennial Lodge No. 100 Sons of St. George.
