Funeral services for Howard Pierce, 86, who passed away Tuesday morning, November 22, in the Methodist Hospital in Peoria, were held Saturday afternoon in the Hammitt Memorial Chapel with Rev. Samuel B. Parker of the Methodist church officiating. Burial was in the Princeville Cemetery. Pallbearers were Orville Smith, Willis Barrett, Raymond Oertley, Robert Ely, Arthur Endress, and Thomas Maddex.
He was born in Princeville June 15, 1880, the son of Theodore and Agatha Harrison Pierce. He was first married to Elizabeth Gibbs of LaFayette and later married Amanda (Hazel) Talbot in Chicago. Both have preceded him in death.
Surviving are five sons, Russell of El Cajon, Calif., Jimmy and Sam of Princeville, Thomas of Washington, and Bill of St. Louis, Mo.; four daughters, Mrs. Leonora Coats, Mrs. Doris Addison, and Mrs. Donna Wells of San Diego, Calif., and Mary Ann Paris of Beverly Hills, Calif., three brothers, Robert of Peoria, Homer of Alta, and Fremont of Galva, two sisters, Mrs. Lilliam Carr of Princeville and Mrs. Mabel Aldridge of Peoria and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Before retiring because of ill health a few years ago, Mr. Pierce was a plumbing and heating contractor in Princeville.
