Ezra was the son of Oliver Ellis and Sarah Woodward. He married Emily Sickles on July 26, 1863 in Jefferson, Jefferson, WI. There were the parents of Minor, William, Mary, Lillie, and Emily Ellis.

OBITUARY - Ezra Ellis, an old soldier, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lillie E Schraeder, on Monday night, the cause of death being given as old age. Deceased was born in Jefferson, Schoharie Co., NY on January 3, 1842, being therefore 71 years, 7 months, and 28 days old at the time of his demise. For some time before his death he had been bedridden, and a great care to his daughter, his passing off being a blessing.

The funeral was held Wednesday forenoon, the remains being taken to Juddville, Door Co., Wi for interment alongside those of his wife (Emily Jane Sickles Ellis), who proceeded several years ago. Mr. Ellis had been a resident of the county for a number of years past, and at one time owned a store in the vicinity of Juddville.
