TANEY COUNTY REPUBLICAN---December 18, 1947
"Rachel Lottie Nash"
Death has claimed on of the oldest of Taney county citizens. She has lived in quiet worth in the vicinity of Day. Her life has seen the coming of changes so vast that not even the wildest imagination of her childhood could have dreamed such visions. Yet it was upon the sturdy merit of such as she that all this has come to be. We bow reverently at the bier of such for the patient labor that made today's comforts possible realities. The voices is now hushed but the deeds remain to bless a greater world.
Imagine a prophet of her girlhood predicting that within her life man would actually travel from St. Louis to Springfield in eighteen minutes! Even today we have to rub our eyes as we read the report and wonder if it is true. Yet that has been done by one of the newer type of planes. Of course that did not include take off and landing time. It was the elapsed time from the passing over the St. Louis airport under full speed until it flashed across the field at Springfield.
Rachel Lottie Nash was born on February 17, 1852 in Portsmouth, Ohio and died December 10, 1947 at the age of 95 years, 10 months and 2 days.
She moved with her parents, Daniel and Anne Wilson, to Springfield, Illinois. She was united in marriage to Thomas Jefferson Nash. To them thirteen children were born, six of whom had preceded her in death. She had lived the greater part of her life on the home place near Day, Missouri, after the death of her husband in 1919.
Deceased was united with the Baptist church at an early age; she lived by the Golden Rule. The following immediate relatives remain to mourn her loss. Mrs. Betty Cummings of Rockaway Beach, Missouri , Mrs. Lou Goodall of Marionville, Missouri, Mrs. Pansy Blansit, of Walnut Shade, Missouri, Sam Nash of Hollister, Missouri, Erin Nash of the home, Charles Nash of Kansas City, Kansas and Frank Nash of California. Also two sisters, Mrs. J.L. Long of Branson, Missouri and Mrs. Frank Long of Springfield, Missouri, twenty-five grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and three great- great grandchildren.
