It has long been believed that Paratine was the daughter of Rev. Sanford Samuel Saxon (b. in GA abt 1825) & Maranza Anna Adams (Robeson Co., NC) daughter of Elijah Adams & Mary Lewis.

During the genealogy study of Paratine and her father, it now appears that Maranza Anna Adams may actually have been her step-mother.

Paratine was born 8 Aug 1862 in Atlanta, GA. Sanford S. Saxon was married to Susan Guess from 1846 until her death in Aug 1862, Atlanta, GA.

On 17 May 1863, he married Maranza in Butler Co, GA. Paratine was 9 mos old. The other children born to SS. Saxon and Susan Guess were William Thomas Saxon (1847 – 1926), James Saxon (1851 – ?), Nancy Elizabeth Saxon (1853 – 1928) and Robert Saxon.

Paratine would not speak of her Native American heritage as she grew-up during a time when "half-breeds" were looked down upon. As far as research has shown, there is no Indian blood in the Adams line however, Susan Guess was the daughter of Thomas K. Guess and Ona Shawnee. Since "Shawnee" is not a surname, it lends credibility to the belief that the Native American blood does come down through the original mother.

Further research is needed to state conclusively that Maranza Anna Adams is NOT the mother of Paratine Saxon.

Sanford S. Saxon served in the 3rd Ala Reserves during the civil war.

*The family migrated from Florence, Ala to Bastrop or Fayette County, Texas in about 1873 & had not been there long when Sanford and Maranza died, cause unknown. The children were put with different families. Paratine went to Maj. J. C. Stribling whose farm was in Cunningham's Prairie, Fayette Co., TX and was put to use as a family servant. They were not very nice to her.

Paratine's siblings:

*Edward D. Saxon b. 1865, d. Sept 11,1875 McDade, TX. Put with W. H. Coulson,Sr. of McDade, TX. He became entangled in the shaft at Mr. BARBEE's Steam Mill (McDade)

*Samuel Lewis Saxon/Sexton (put with the Wesley Hunt family, Williamson Co. TX) b. May 28, 1867 Ala., d. Dec 24, 1941 Bell Co., TX. The only one to spell surname as "Sexton"

*Marietta Saxon (put with Mrs.Cook, Rutersville, Bastrop Co. TX) b. March 1868, m. Feb 9, 1893 Wm. Henry Duty
