My Great-GrandFather on my Mama's side -- Granny's Daddy:

Married to Nancy Ellan(Landis) Hogle. Their children:

Peggy Gustenberger (she later changed her name to Grace) (Hogle) Walker

Elsie Hogle

Twins: Walter and Wallace Hogle

Edward Hogle

Viola Houck (Hogle) Floyd *my Granny*

He was born and raised in Knox County, OH - Mt. Vernon. My Granny told how he loved to make taffy and the chill i nthe Ohio winter air was just right as he would stretch the taffy between two long nails on the front porch posts. All the kids loved it! He had worked in a Steelmill and lost an eye. They replaced it with a glass eye, but did not give him any money for the injury.

The family moved from Ohio to Oklahoma City where they had a hamburger restraunt just before you crossed the bridge (as Granny explained).. She laughed saying that she and Sis Peggy were giving all the burgers to the boys and Pop could not figure out why he was not turning a profit!

Pop spent time in jail in Oklahoma City. He earned rank as a trustee in about 1927 or so.. he was out sweeping the sidewalks and his son Ed and Arthur Floyd pulled up and he got in the car and the family left Oklahoma. they all headed out west to Phoenix, Arizona.

My Papa, Arthur told the story, he was sitting in a saloon with Pop, and my Papa who was about 20 yrs old or so... had a very long beard and looked rough working from harvesting bat guana in the mountain caves. Pop Hogle saw a small boy staring at the Bushy Arthur and said "Young Man, did you know that this here is a goat man from the mountains?"...the wide-eyed child just shook his head "no". So, my papa handed the salt shaker to Pop and he said "why thank you goatman" and my Papa Bleeted so loud that the child ran out the saloon doors. This story always made us grandkids laugh!

Pop Hogle built basements and stormn cellars. He stayed briefly in Lancaster, TX and built a storm cellar up past the cattle guard from the Floyd Homestead. It is nearly 100 yrs old - but it is still there. I would not venture down in it!

Pop was not a real loveable guy, apparently he had a pretty mean streak about him. My Granny would tell me "My Dad was the meaneast _ _ _ that ever lived!" He was mean to her sweet Mother and Granny never forgave him.

Parents were: William and Sylvia Minnie (Wood) Hogle -her nickname was Sib. Grand-daughters Viola Houck(Hogle)Floyd and Peggy Grace(Hogle) Walker recalled Sib and they would laugh! They said she was a mean Grandmother. The girls never wanted to go to their Daddy's parents house. they would not tell me much more, she wore black and was wicked - is all they would say.

"Just Passing"

Passing out of the shadow
Into a purer light;
Stepping behind the curtain,
Getting a clearer sight.

Laying aside the burden;
This weary mortal coil; Done with world's vexations,
Done with tears and toil.

Tired of all earth's playthings,
Heartsick and ready to sleep,
Ready to bid our friends farewell,
Wondering why they weep.

Passing out of the shadow
Into eternal day.
Why do we call it dying -
This sweet going away?
