Sarah's mom Margaret V. Dunsmore Scott died when she was a year old in 1858 and her father died in a prisoner of war camp during the civil war in 1864. Soon after her mom died her grandparents George Shultz and Mary Ward Shultz raised her until she married Boston Scott in 1872 at the age of fourteen. Sarah and Boston had been married 46 years at the time of her death.

Only child not listed below is Charles Albert Scott 1886-1971 who died in Farmington,New Mexico.
