Jasper was the son of David and Sarah "Sallie" (Grider) Bryant. David Bryant was the son of John and Elizabeth Bryant who were the pioneer Bryants who settled Adair County, Kentucky.

Jasper married Nancy Jane Pierce on November 1, 1860. They had ten children, one of whom was dead by 1900.* Nine of the names were William D, Sarah F, Millie A, Martha J, Eveline, Hector Owen (known as Heck), Emeline, Jesse Flint and Ralph. The other child may have been Rody or Rhoda who was born about 1867, but she appears to possibly have been their niece. If she was, she was still raised as their daughter.

*Further research in January 2009, disclosed that the child who died before 1900 was Millie A. (Bryant) Rodgers. She was not married by the 1880 census (she was only 15) and she died in 1890 with no death record made.
