MR. AUGUSTINE WILLIS DIES AT TAMPA HOSPITAL
"One of Manatee County's Prominent Citizens Passes Away After A Short Illness."
"After a painful illness of two weeks, Mr. Augustine Willis, a prominent citizen of Bradentown and Cortez, died at the Halcyon Hospital in Tampa last Monday morning at 1 o'clock.
It will be remembered that about two weeks ago Mr. Willis received injuries while attempting to get into a boat at Cortez. It was at first thought that the injuries were slight but later complication arose and he was removed to Tampa for surgical treatment. He was given every attention possible, but all to no avail, the end coming as above stated on Monday morning.
The deceased was a member of the general merchandise firm of Hine & Willis of this city, and was the owner of a fishing fleet at Cortez. He was an energetic, conscientious business man, considered absolutely reliable in all things and his friends were only numbered by his acquaintances. For a number of years he had been a faithful and devoted member of the Presbyterian church of this city, and was a member of the local order of Odd Fellows and Woodman of the World.
The funeral services were conducted at the Baptist church by his pastor, Rev. John E. Henderson, assisted by the Rev. A. Preston Boyd, of the Baptist church. The services at the grave were conducted by the Odd Fellows and Woodmen.
The deceased is survived by a widow, who was a Miss Hine, sister of Messrs. J. P. and L. L. Hine, and six children, four boys and two daughters.
The Journal joins the many friends of these excellent people in extending sincere sympathy in their great bereavement."
