Juan De Cuevas was the son of Pedro De Cuevas and Isabel (Batista) Cuevas and was born in Algamitis, Andalucia, Spain.

He was the husband of Marie Helene (Ladner) Cuevas, daughter of Nicholas Ladner and Marianne (Paquet) Ladner.

He was the father or 12 children:

1. Jaun (John) Cuevas Jr. born 1796
2. Helene Cuevas born 1797
3. Francois (Frank) Cuevas born 1799
4. Brigitte Cuevas born 1800
5. Celeste Galixte Cuevas born 1803
6. Marie Anastasie Cuevas born 1805
7. Marie Solitelle Cuevas born 1807
8. Pierre (Parrik) Cuevas born 1811
9. Charles Ferdinand Cuevas born 1811
10. Ramon (Raymond) Cuevas born 1812
11. Euphrosine Cuevas born 1813
12. Henrietta Pauline Cuevas born 1815

The family lived on Cat Island where Juan died and was eventually reinterred to his final resting place entombed with his beloved wife Marie, in Biloxi.

All Cuevas',Couevas',Quaves or Queves, having been native born to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, can trace thier ancestry back to Juan. The Cuevas family can also be noted as one of the largest "Creole" families having helped to settle the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
