William Dale "Heavy" Bickers, 72, of Newton, died April 27, 1991 at Newton Rest Haven.

Mr. Bickers was born April 17, 1919 in Champaign County, the son of Perry and Susie Olive Galloway Bickers.

He attended Calvary Baptist Church and was a member of Sailor Springs Christian Church. He was a member of Richland Post #30, American Legion and Olney Memorial Post #4226 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Bickers is survived by one son, Randall D. Bickers; four daughters, Marlene Ellison, Brenda Sloan, Terrie Pickerel, and Rhonda Bickers;a brother, Samuel Bickers; one sister, Wanda Green; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.

Funeral services were held at the chapel of Zirkle Funeral Home with burial and full military rites at Headyville Cemetery.

Military rites provided by the Olney Veterans organizations.
