Wallace W. Moffatt, former mayor of Dubuque, died Saturday at Finley Hospital. He was 72 years old.

Former Mayor Moffatt Dies
Short illness preceded death

Wallace W. Moffatt, 72, of 1546 Parkway, a Dubuque business man and former mayor, died at 10:45am Saturday at Finley Hospital after a short illness.
Friends may call after noon Sunday at the Egelhof Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2pm Monday at the funeral home. The Reverend G. Dempster Yinger, pastor of St. Luke's Methodist Church, will officiate. Masonic services will be conducted by the Metropolitan Lodge.

Born in Canada
Moffatt was born on Nov 25, 1879 , in Orillia, Ontario, Canada. He was a son of Thomas W. and Hestor (her name was Sarah) Willson Moffatt. In 1900 he came to Dubuque and began working for the Mathis-Metz Printing Company. It later became the Mathis-Moffatt Printing Company.
He was a member and past master of the Metropolitan Lodge, AF and AM. He was also past monarch of the Oxus Grotto and a member of the Rotary Club. For a number of years he served on the Dubuque City Council.
He also belonged to the Royal Arch Masons, Dubuque chapter No. 3, the Chamber of Commerce, the Dubuque County Historical Society, the Dubuque County Conservation Society, and was an honorary member of the Dubuque Police Protective Association.

Sister, brother Survive
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Joshua Fraser, of Minneapolis, Minn.; a brother, Robert, of Dubuque; two nephews, Dr. Thomas Moffatt, of Denver, Colo., and Hillman Moffatt, of St. Paul, Minn.; and five nieces, Mrs. Wayne Anthony, of Dubuque, Mrs. Harker Spensley, of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Roger Worley, of Dayton, Ohio, Mrs. Gerald Cummins, of Ft. Dodge, Ia., and Mrs. Muriel Zecklin, of Minneapolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, James L., of St. Paul, and his two sisters, Miss Elma Moffatt and Mrs. Hestor Woods, both of Orillia, Canada.
Council Unanimously Picks Head for Fiscal Year
Dubuque's new Mayor is W. W. Moffatt, who was unanimously selected for the position a the organization meeting of the City Council Monday night. Mr. Moffatt succeeds George Murphy, who served in that capacity during the last fiscal year.
The new Mayor was sworn in by City Clerk J J Shea after the three members of the Council re-elected at the recent city election had gone through the same procedure. The councilmen re-elected are Albert Wharton, Frank Van Duelman and Frank Thompson.
The induction of the new mayor was not without color because there were baskets of flowers for him from the other members of the council and from the Past Masters Club (Masonic) of Dubuque.

The council delved into a considerable amount of routine business immediately after this ceremony was over. Sworn in by the Mayor were these appointees: City Manager A. A. Rhomberg, City Solicitor John J Kitzinger, City Clerk....(rest of article torn off)
