US Congressman. He moved to Lexington, Kentucky in 1797, studied law, and became an attorney. In 1800 he moved to Vincennes, Indiana Territory. Parke served as the Territory's Attorney General from 1804 to 1808. In 1805, he was elected to the first territorial legislature. Later that year he was elected as the territory's first non-voting Delegate to the United States House of Representatives, and served until his resignation in 1808. Parke served in the military during Tecumseh's War and the War of 1812, commanding a troop of Dragoons as a Captain and seeing action at the Battle of Tippecanoe, later receiving promotion to Major. In 1816 he was a Delegate to Indiana's first state constitutional convention. In 1817 he was appointed US District Judge for Indiana, an office he held until his death. Parke was a founder of the Vincennes Public Library and Vincennes University, and was the first president of the Indiana State Historical Society. Parke County Indiana was named for him.
